Fiesta’s Fall Must Haves

Fiesta’s Fall Must Haves

It’s hard to believe that fall is just around the corner. It seems like summer just started and now we’re already pinning tasty pumpkin recipes on Pinterest, shopping for comfy new sweaters, and seeing Halloween decorations in all the stores. Although we’re lamenting summer coming to an end again, we are excited to enter autumn in style. Today we’re bringing you our top 10 Fiesta Fall Must Haves so you and your kitchen can be prepared for a very fashionable fall!

1. Anything Claret

1

Our newest color is a beautiful burgundy hue that is the perfect addition to your collection, especially for fall! Picture Claret, Slate, Sage, and Ivory adorning your dinner table on Thanksgiving, or any autumn day! We can’t wait to see how you set your tables with this beautiful shade.

2. Tapered Mug

2

Cooler weather calls for coffee and cocoa, and what better way to enjoy them than in our 15oz. Tapered Mug? The Tapered mug is ideal for hot beverages on chilly mornings, as it holds more than our Java and Ring Handled mugs and fits so snuggly in the hand.

3. Skillet Baker

3

The dropping temperatures mean that we can get back to one of our favorite pastimes: baking! We’re tying our apron strings and turning our ovens back on after a summer of ice cream and popsicles to keep cool (don’t get us wrong, we love our cold summer treats, too!). One of our favorite items for making baked goods is our new Skillet Baker! You can find a recipe for Gourmet Skillet S’mores here: bit.ly/2aMEytS

4. Halloween items

4

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays here at Fiesta Dinnerware, as you might have noticed if you’ve seen all of our Halloween ware! We have everything you need to celebrate Halloween right this year: scary cats, hooting owls, flying witches, spooky pumpkins and newest of all, our trio of skeletons and ghosts patterns! Scare easily? Don’t worry. These characters are more cute than creepy!

5. Covered Casserole

5

The Covered Casserole was one of our favorite new items in 2015, and it still has our hearts this year! Think delicious soups, hearty casseroles, and even fresh baked bread kept warm by one of our most stylish pieces.

6. Tortilla Warmer

6

Yes, the much anticipated Tortilla Warmer has made our list of fall must haves. Why? Much like the Covered Casserole, it is able to keep meals hot with its ceramic lid. And you don’t need to be limited to warming tortillas! We love using the Tortilla Warmer for small casseroles, dips, and any sides you need to keep warm. The Tortilla Warmer will be coming soon!

7. Appetizer Plate

7

Fall represents different things to all of us. For some it means the start of school, for others it marks the beginning of holiday shopping (yikes!), and still other see the leaves changing and think one thing: football season. Whether you’re a fan or not, we think everyone can get on board with a good tailgate party! We love all the classic foods that go along with cheering on your team, and we have the perfect plate for your viewing party munchies: our Appetizer Plate! Go for the extra point and get a set in your team’s colors.

8. Signature Bowl

8

Another of our newest items might just be made for fall dining: the Signature Bowl. Just think of coming home after a blustery stroll outside to a beautiful bowl of hot soup or stew waiting for you. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it!

9. Pie Baker

Untitled design-54

Did we mention we love baking already? Well, we’ll say it again. We LOVE baking! Is there anything better than fresh baked goods straight from the oven on a crisp fall day? We don’t think so. Another of our favorite bakeware pieces is our Large and Small Pie Bakers, perfect for pumpkin, apple, pecan, and every pie in between! Check out our recipe for mini pumpkin pies here: bit.ly/2bS7tk3

10. Square Ware

10

Autumn is the season of change; the leaves are changing colors, and you’re changing out your dinnerware! If you’re used to the usual round plates, bowls, and mugs, consider switching it up this season with our square Fiesta line. It’s chic, modern, and lots of fun to combine with the classic round pieces to bring a different look to your table.

There you have it; our top ten must have Fiesta items for fall. Do you agree with our list, or are there other pieces you think should have made the cut? Let us know in the comments!

Fiesta Dinnerware New Products: Foundry Collection, Holiday & Halloween

We sure have been busy at the Homer Laughlin factory! Not only did we release our new 2016 color – Claret – this week, but we’re also announcing several new items. Boy, are we excited to share them with you!

We’re casting a new light on traditional dinnerware with something completely different: the Fiesta Dinnerware Foundry Collection. Foundry has a matte textured charcoal glaze with the distinct look of a cast iron piece that has seen many meals and memories over time. It has the characteristic feel of seasoned cast iron, yet the ease of use of rust-free ceramic dinnerware.

Many people like the aesthetics of serving their meals on cast iron, but let’s be real…caring for cast iron can be high maintenance. The Foundry Collection offers the best of both worlds!

Fiesta Dinnerware Foundry Collection at the blog www.alwaysfestive.com.

The Fiesta Foundry Collection will be available in the following pieces beginning April 2016 at department stores, .coms and www.fiestafactorydirect.com:

  • Skillet/Baker
  • Pizza/Baking Tray 12″
  • Rectangular Baker 9×13”
  • Square Baker 9×9”
  • Individual Oval Baker
  • Loaf Pan
  • Bread Tray
  • Ramekin 8oz
  • Jumbo Bowl 18oz

In other exciting news, there’s going to be a lot more to celebrate around the holidays this year because we’re expanding our Christmas and Halloween patterns.

The Christmas Tree collection is in its tenth year of production (can you believe it?!) and continues to grow in popularity. We’re adding the following pieces:

The first set in a series of three of the Twelve Days of Christmas collection was introduced last year, including Days 1-4. This year, we’re introducing the next in the series, Days 5-8, in a Set of 4 Mugs and a Set of 4 Salad/Dessert Plates:

And Halloween’s getting much spookier with the addition of Ghosts and a Trio of Skeletons:

The Halloween collection will be available for purchase in July and Fiesta Christmas Tree and Twelve Days of Christmas will be available in early August at better department stores, .coms and www.fiestafactorydirect.com.

Keep checking www.fiestafactorydirect.com and our Fiesta Facebook and Pinterest pages for more information. ‘Tis the season for Fiesta new product introductions!

Easy Halloween Entertaining

Halloween is always a fun, but busy day for families. Between getting kids in their costumes, making dinner and entertaining friends and neighbors who stop by for some pre-trick or treating fun, there is a lot to take care of. To make your night easier, we gathered some tried and true, easy, and delicious recipes for your Halloween evening.

Most parents agree that getting in a nutritious meal before eating candy well into the evening is  always the goal, especially on Halloween. Chili is a crowd pleaser, even for picky eaters. Plus, it’s a quick meal you can prepare hours ahead of time (we think it’s even better if you make it the day before!).

Final

We followed a very simple family recipe we like to call “Halloween Chili Brew” that can even be done in the crockpot if you want to prep ahead. Or you can make it in a large stock pot or Dutch oven. Both options are simple and require little time. (You will find the recipe towards the bottom.)

Hand,-Chip,-Chili

One of the best things about chili is that it’s an easy, casual meal that guests and kids can serve themselves with ease. Then you’re free to mingle with guests dropping by or tend to little ones. We set out the Jumbo Bowls in Shamrock for a nice easy-to-hold bowl for individual servings. We used the Large Bistro Bowl also in Shamrock for blue corn chips. The chili was cooked in a Dutch oven on the stove, then transferred to the Ivory Large Covered Casserole dish and kept in the oven to keep it warm. The Large Covered Casserole dish moves perfectly from the oven to the table and keeps food nice and warm.

Overhead-Serving-Chili-Final

Of course our meal wouldn’t be complete without a beverage and what better beverage to serve than hot apple cider? We kept it wine free so everyone could enjoy it, but we will give you the recipe with with wine or without.

White-Pumpkins-Over-the-Shoulder

Overhead-Serving-Hot-Cider-Final

The hot apple cider took about 60 seconds to prepare. It’s as easy as just pouring all the ingredients into the crockpot, slicing an apple and orange, turning the crockpot on low and waiting for it to get nice and warm.

Overhead-Final

We placed the crockpot on the buffet table so everything was in one accessible spot. The new Tapered Mugs are perfect for enjoying a warm beverage, especially on a crisp evening.

To dress up the buffet table, we used black burlap strips to create a fun texture in place of a tablecloth. That kept things simple and prevented some of the messes from little ones who would be serving themselves. White pumpkins in three different sizes made for a great addition to the color scheme on the buffet table. Behind the buffet table, market lights and a chalkboard banner hung in the background to add to the ambiance. Simple decor like this is perfect to leave up for the entire fall season, making it even easier to entertain guests at a later date or on a spur of the moment.

Final

Fiesta mixing bowls have so many uses outside of the kitchen. We filled the medium mixing bowl with candy for trick or treaters. Just imagine what a lovely fall evening you’ll have sitting on the porch with a delicious cup of hot apple cider warming your hands and passing out candy to the neighborhood kids.

A Sugary Halloween With Fiesta Dinnerware

Full-TableScape

Hi! I’m Julia Murphy and I’m crazy excited to be guest blogging here for Fiesta Dinnerware. My family has been using Fiesta Dinnerware for generations. My grandmother had a Fiesta teapot on her shelf for decades and I’ve been using Fiesta on a daily basis since 1997.

My husband and I currently live in Heidelberg, Germany. We love to travel, try new things, make new friends, and explore. I’m a self-taught home baker. A few YouTube videos on the magic of buttercream plus work on the science of baking has brought me to a place where I like the look of what I create and how it tastes. New projects and techniques are labeled ‘test kitchen’ on my blog, The Sugary Shrink, so I can remind myself that nothing has to be perfect. My goal is for the outside design to match the inside deliciousness.

I hope you like what I have prepared for you this month.

At the first hint of autumn, I get excited for my favorite holiday season.  It begins with Halloween and continues through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve. This year is no different. We love to invite our friends over for fun and spooky-good times!  After an easy dinner of chili and cornbread, a costume contest, and maybe a talent show – we’ll attack the dessert table before settling in for an evening of classic board games.

The Dessert Table

This dessert table was inspired my all-time favorite – Candy Corn! I love the colors, the look and the flavor.

Full-TableScape

When I prepare a dessert table, I like to offer popular choices so everyone’s happy. It’s also important to appeal all the senses. The scent of the Granny Smith apples, hot cocoa, and fresh fruit kabobs is an additional draw because it mingles with the scent of cupcakes and buttercream.

Combining textures is another great technique to keep things visually interesting. The Fiesta Dinnerware paired with a wooden box next to a wire cake stand allows these different textures to play off one another.

Varying the height of displays helps break up any sense of visual monotony. I aim for visual balance, for example the box with the Slate Large Disc Pitcher on the left is at the same level as the Baking Tray of Jumbo Mugs on the right.  The Appetizer Plates are balanced with the candy corn candle holder while the Bread Trays and Omni Trays establish a solid base.

Floral-Arrangement

I’ve stacked the Shamrock Witch Appetizer plate with a Lemongrass Dessert plate to add color and fun. The black and white paper straws are in a Poppy tapered Mug.  This combination, with three different levels, keeps a nice visual balance.

The Desserts!

Omni-Tray-Final

I am in love with this omni tray! An omni tray means it’s a party and this time was no exception. I combined two Poppy and two Slate omni trays and added a Poppy ramekin for the center and finished with a Slate 15” Round baking tray. The combination is a real showstopper.

The center is filled with a chocolate, peanut butter, and cream cheese dip to compliment the other dessert items of yogurt covered pretzels, graham crackers, Oreos and Clementine’s.

How about a few Monster Cupcakes?

Cupcakes

Vanilla Cupcakes are perfect for a design like these. I tint the batter to match the cupcake liner. I tinted the FrankenCupcake green, the Purple Periscope is tinted purple and the Chocolate Orange Rose tinted orange to match their respective colored cupcake liners. Monster cupcakes might be the perfect party activity for guests of all ages.

If you make these cupcakes for your party guests this season, consider topping cupcakes with crushed pretzels or nuts, flaked coconut, swirls of caramel, and always remember to add eyes for the monster effect.

Orange Ombre Cake

OMbre-Cake-Final

This chocolate layer cake is three layers of delicious! The design is forgiving and approachable for the home baker. A Sunflower 12” cake plate is ideal for the 8” round cake and the colors pair very well. The frosting is vanilla buttercream in a light orange ombré finish. I cut out a construction paper Scary Boo Cat, to echo the Lemongrass Boo Cat, and taped a coffee stir stick on the back then gently set him down off-center.

When I first started decorating cakes, I tried to make each and every cake perfect. No lines, no smears, no flaws. But that’s not real life and that’s certainly not me. Now I embrace a more relaxed style when it comes to buttercream and cake and I hope you do too.

I don’t know if I can celebrate Halloween without a candied apple and I’m not willing to find out! These Granny Smith apples are a generous size and not for the faint of heart. The white bread tray is a wonderful showcase for these treats and is perfect for taking from refrigerator to the table.

Candy-Apples-on-Omi-Tray

These candy apples have natural sticks that I cleaned, blanched, and then twisted into the center of the cleaned, dried apple until firmly in place. After the apple was dipped in caramel sauce, I rolled it around several different kinds of coating. This is where the fun begins!

Though peanuts are a traditional choice, not all my guests can eat nuts – so I crushed a few pretzels instead.  It’s a terrific crunch and is a flavor buddy to caramel and apples; the candy corn screams party. Other options to be included next time could be cupcake sprinkles, mini-chocolate morsels, toasted coconut and toffee chips.

Bread-Trays-

These three Bread Trays: White, Poppy, and Sunflower continue the theme of candy corn and Halloween.

The Poppy bread tray has two different kinds of treat, fresh fruit kabobs of dark grapes and kiwi chunks. The color of the fruit supports the Halloween theme and is a wonderful alternative to baked goods and is a beautiful contrast to the Poppy.

Sugary Shrink tip: After completing kabobs, go back and cut away the pointed end of the stick to reduce the risk that anyone is harmed with a kabob skewer.

On the other half of the Poppy bread tray is a chocolate mocha ball with coconut. I bought this at the store because it looked festive and offered a different flavor.  When it comes to dessert tables– it’s about the hosts’ comfort level and reduced anxiety. If baking at home is too much, consider attempting one item. If that’s still too much, buy all the things! It’s a party and what matters is time spent with family and friends.

Rice krisp Candy Corn Wedges

RK-candy-corn

You didn’t know how badly you needed these in your life until this very moment. They are as fun and easy they look. For this dessert table, I used my 10” cake round, which required about one and a half times the standard marshmallow treat recipe. Add color just at the very end of the marshmallows melting, remove from heat, stir in cereal, and press into pan. Placing a round of parchment paper at the bottom of the pan and liberally butter the sides made for a very easy release onto the cutting board.  I scored the entire round with my cake slicer and sliced the wedges apart with a heavy knife.

These Jumbo Mugs are the hit of the party!  They’re so much fun and it seems everyone has their favorite. Halloween is a perfect time for hot cocoa with marshmallows and this mug can handle anything you throw at it.

hlc-halloween-341

Five jumbo mugs fit very nicely on the White 15” round baking tray sitting on an upended Poppy Hostess Bowl.  This combination adds color, height, and provides a great base for these hot mugs. Watch as your guests match their mug to their appetizer or luncheon plate, adults and children alike.

Quite frankly, this Jumbo Mug is one of my favorite, go-to mugs.  I might turn right around and have cereal or oatmeal in one or later in the day, a bit of soup. It’s like a bowl with a handle.

Cake-side-shot

Once the cake is sliced, the plates fill up.  There are very few rules when it comes to party guests serving themselves.  It’s about creating a welcoming atmosphere filled with love and acceptance and fun. Fiesta Dinnerware does that, it brings fun and says, “You’re family here.”

The best part of Fiesta and Halloween is the amusement and the memories. So many years of helping our kids get dressed up for Halloween, the occasional family costume (In 2005 we went as Yahtzee) or those drizzly nights my life partner dressed up as a mummy to hand out candy. Halloween has nostalgia and traditions. These are the same words I use when it comes to Fiesta Dinnerware. Fiesta is fun and each family has unique traditions that keep time anchored. This year as I add the Halloween Bats and Whoo Owl design to my party, I will also be adding a new tradition that extends the good memories of past years with the new memories of today.
