Throwing the Perfect Movie Award Night Party

Plan an Oscar worthy Academy Award party with some simple tips from Fiesta Dinnerware on the blog at www.alwaysfestive.com.

At Fiesta Dinnerware, we’ll take any opportunity to throw a party. Food and friends – it’s what life’s all about! So with the biggest movie award night just around the corner, we decided it’s lights, camera, action for a party themed around one of our favorite movies of the year…La La Land. Our décor, food, drink, and party favor all are inspired by this beautiful film about a jazz musician and actress searching for fame in LA.

Here are some ideas to plan your own movie award night viewing party:

Lay out the red carpet. Since our theme is based on La La Land, we’re rolling out a “piano carpet” that we found online. Ask a few friends to act like the paparazzi as your guests arrive.

Dress for the occasion. How often do we get a chance to dress up? Do like the stars do and dress to the nines! You could even go a step further and ask your guests to dress like their favorite actor or actress.

Provide a star-studded backdrop. Try using a giant movie poster as your backdrop. And don’t forget plenty of props like hats, boas and sunglasses.

Make show stopping snacks. Set up a buffet table with gourmet snacks. Be sure to coordinate your dinnerware and serveware with the theme of your party. With our La La Land theme, we’re using a Fiesta Dinnerware color palette of Lapis, Cobalt, White, and new color Daffodil (look for Daffodil in stores and online this June!).

We’re serving a variety of simple foods, but it’s the extra touches that make each dish special. Our menu includes:

Truffle Oil Parmesan Popcorn: Make or buy premade popcorn. Drizzle with a combination of melted butter and truffle oil. Sprinkle with shaved parmesan cheese and fresh parsley. We found some fun glammed up movie theater popcorn bags in which to serve the popcorn. People can scoop it right out of a Fiesta Signature Bowl.

Chicken on a Stick: At one point in the movie, the main character Sebastian mentions that he’d like to open a jazz club called “Chicken on a Stick” in honor of Charlie Parker. It’s a no brainer what we’re serving after a comment like that!

We’re grilling chicken skewers and serving them with a variety of sauces, like barbeque, honey mustard and peanut sauce. Our friends at Oh So Delicioso have a recipe for a yummy Peanut Dipping Sauce.

Serve the Chicken on a Stick on a Medium Oval Platter with the dipping sauces in our Bouillon Bowls set on top of a Small Bread Tray. Three of the bowls fit perfectly in the Small Bread Tray.

Cheese Tray for a Star: We’re having some fun with a set of star cookie cutters in various sizes to get our cheese tray Hollywood ready. Just cut different types of cheese into star shapes and serve with crackers and some dried fruit. We served our cheese tray on a Square Handled Serving Tray.

The new Bistro Crescent Plate is the perfect size and shape for serving small bites at a party. Don’t you think?

Camera Ready Cupcakes: Is it possible to have a party without cupcakes? It would be hard to convince us otherwise. Vanilla cupcakes are always a hit. Need a recipe? Look no further than The Sugary Shrink. We’re sprinkling ours with gold stars to dress them up.

Here’s a fun Fiesta hack: turn a Cup upside down and place an Appetizer Plate on top to make a mini cake stand. Or a Hostess Serving Bowl upside down topped with any plate or platter for a larger cake stand.

Create a signature drink. Champagne will always do in a pinch, but creating your own signature drink makes the party all that more glam. We’re serving a La La Lapis Martini (recipe below).

Cast your ballots. Before the show starts, provide a ballot sheet listing all the nominees. Ask your guests to cast their votes. Whoever predicts the most wins, gets a prize of their own!

Present your party favors. After the best picture is announced, give your guests some swag. We decided at our party, everyone goes home a winner. It’s golden statues all around: chocolate pops decked out in edible gold, of course!

How to Style the Perfect #Shelfie with Fiesta Dinnerware

Portrait-Citrus

Capturing images and sharing them with our friends and family on social media is one of the most fun aspects the digital age. Afterall, we are proud and love the items we have in our lives, especially if it has anything to do with Fiesta Dinnerware. In this blog post, we decided to play around with the digital trend known as a “shelfie” — decoratively styling the shelves of your cabinets and show you our three best shelfies along with some tips on styling your own.

Color Scheme: Our first tip is to decide what your color scheme will be. Once you decide on the colors you are going to display, then you can select the items you want to have on your shelves. In our three different shelfies, we created three different looks:

  1. an ombre scheme of greens and blues
  2. a collection of retro mod style
  3. a citrus color theme

Fiesta Tip: Have more items than will fit on your shelves? Fret not! The idea of shelfies is that they are a fun ever-changing piece of functional art in your home that can easily be switched out.

Functionality: If you’re styling a shelfie with Fiesta Dinnerware, chances are it will be somewhere close to your kitchen or dining room. Deciding how functional you want your shelfie to be will help you decide what accessories you will want to add to the shelves. We added coffee beans, sugar and a french press to one of our shelfies because it’s close to our breakfast nook.

Retro-Mod--Tall

Horizontal and Vertical: To keep your shelfies looking visually interesting, use a variety of sizes of items and place them either in a horizontal or vertical manner. It creates interest and shows personality.

Blues-Ombre

Size: While it’s important to show off your own personal style, be practical about the extra items that you add to your shelfie to be the most aesthetically pleasing. For example, don’t add in any accessories that are bigger than the largest dish on each shelf. Extra items should generally be small to medium sized for best results.

Books: Regardless of the type of shelfie that you decide on, books always make it better. Since our shelfie consists of dishes, we decided to add cookbooks and magazines.

Reto-Middle-Close-up

Grouping and Layers of Colors: The idea with this rule is to create variety within the color scheme that you choose. In all of our looks, we have shown groups of like colors and/or layers of color but have varied the amount of each. By doing both, you get to show off your Fiesta collection and sense of color style.

Plants and Flowers: Add in plants or flowers to your shelfie. It adds a soft touch and keeps your shelfie looking natural and real.

Close-up-Ombre-Left

Take A Step Back: Once you completely style your shelfie, take a step back and remove one or two items off each shelf. The idea here is that you don’t want it to look cluttered. If any item seems to be out of place, remove it and reassess. If you are pleased with what you see, you’re done! Enjoy and use #FiestaShelfie so we can see your best shelfie!

Ombre-Pieces-

The Lemongrass deep dish pie baker is discontinued (Bottom Left Corner) , however we do have some stock still available online. So if it caught your, eye get one while you can!

A Labor Day BBQ

Labor Day BBQ- FB Image and Title ImageIs anyone else in disbelief that summer is officially winding down and Labor Day is upon us? To hold onto summer just a little longer, we came up with some delicious food ideas for the last BBQ of the season.

In this blog post we have a hot dog bar, mini peach pies, a bacon mango salsa fit for any hot dog, classic corn on the cob with a variety of toppings, and a tasty watermelon refresher beverage. With a little prep work, this Labor Day spread is simple to put together and only requires a grill, an oven and your favorite Fiesta Dinnerware. We used Sunflower, Scarlet and Cobalt as our color scheme.
Grilled-Corn

To start with our delicious menu, we lit the grill to get it nice and warm for our corn, hot dogs and zucchini. We suggest grilling the corn with the husk on because it helps to create a steam pocket for the corn and cooks it evenly. We have the half husked corn, but suggest finding the corn with the full husk—trust us, it’s so worth it.

Toppings

Toppings

While the grill warms up and starts to cook our main items, let’s talk about Bacon Mango Peach Salsa. We used Mrs. G’s Hot Pepper Jelly in Mango Ginger Habanero, grilled bacon (yes, we said grilled bacon, try it if you haven’t yet!) fresh mango, and red onion. Simply dice half of one red onion, grilled bacon and fresh mango and mix together in a medium bowl. Add 5 tablespoons of Mrs. G’s Mango Ginger Habanero hot pepper jelly (add more if desired). You can use this to dress up your hot dog, grilled corn or for just eating by itself, it’s that good.

Mrs.G's-Jelly Once we were finished with the bacon mango salsa, we placed all the toppings in Fiesta cups near the hot dog bar on our tablescape. Toppings for the hot dogs are featured in our Labor Day Shopping List at the end of this blog post to make things easier.

Hot Dogs

Hot-Dog-Bar

When we started thinking of classic Labor Day recipes, we of course thought of hot dogs. It doesn’t get more American than that. But we wanted to jazz up the standard grilled hot dogs and surprise family and friends with something unexpected. We think this does the trick.

3-Hot-Dogs Recipes, FIesta Dinnerware

Veggie Italian Dog, Bacon Mango Dog and a Southern Dog.

We did three different hot dog options that included a vegetarian option. We grilled zucchini to take the place of the hot dog and included Italian-inspired flavors to top it off: marinara sauce, grated parmesan mixed with breadcrumbs and Italian seasonings.

Veggie-Dog

For the second delicious dog, this is where the bacon mango salsa comes into major play. Because we already made the bacon mango salsa, all your guests have to do is top their hot dog or zucchini dog with it and enjoy.

Mrs.G's-Dog

Last but not least is the Southern dog. This hot dog requires red onion, cheddar cheese, chives, and bbq sauce. The combination is sweet, salty and delicious.

Corn

Corn-and-Flowers

Who doesn’t love corn on the cob? It’s such a yummy classic summer staple, it’s not a BBQ without it. Continuing with the idea of the hot dog bar, we created a corn bar as well.

Fiesta Entertaining Tip- Giving your guests options makes the process fun for not only you as the host, but for them as the guest.

We used the omni trays in the colors of our color scheme and snaked them across the table instead of a circle to allow for more items on the table. We made four different toppings for the corn that included a Greek Tapenade of feta and olives, a New England option with butter and Old Bay Seasoning, a creamy Mexican cheese topping and an Italian parmesan bread crumb topping. The omni trays were the perfect size to roll and coat your corn with ease.

Corn-Toppings-in-Entertaining-Set

Pie

No holiday is complete without a sweet treat, so we made individual peach pies in ramekins, taking a fun tip from our friend the Sugary Shrink. To keep pies simple and easy to make, we used two cans of peach pie filling and we opted to have minimal crust by only using it on the top in the shape of a star. The result is a warm, gooey treat.

Watermelon Refresher

Flowers-and-Watermelon

We’ve all heard that watermelon is mostly water, but have you ever put it in a blender and served it as a beverage? That’s just what we did. It was refreshing, not too sweet, and perfect for all ages. If you want to take your Labor Day BBQ to the next level, you can serve the watermelon refresher in the watermelon itself as a beverage server. All that is needed is a spout.

Main-Image

We hope that you all have a wonderful Labor Day full of rest and relaxation, but most importantly we hope that you enjoy your friends and family on this holiday as we observe a day of rest for all hardworking Americans.

Fiesta Summer Resolutions: Hosting a Clambake

ClamBake
Summer is meant for spending extra time with family and friends and making memories to last a lifetime. So why not try something new and bring an east coast New England summer classic to wherever you are? After all, our #FiestaSummerResolutions challenge still stands and we are determined to try new things. From the west coast to the east coast and everywhere in between, create your own clambake summer tradition.

Set the Table:

Set your table and make it the focal point of the clambake. After all, that’s where the action is going to be. Decide what colors you’d like to focus on and go from there. This is your time to bring the style from New England to wherever you are or to take that style and make it your own, like we did. We decided to incorporate the classic blues, Lapis and Cobalt with a modern take on red, so we used Poppy and crisp classic White.

Landscape-Tablescape

Plan a Festive Drink:

Lemonade

Find a fun drink recipe that will delight your guests’ tastebuds and that has the flavors of summer. We couldn’t think of anything more summertime than a delicious lemonade. We love this recipe from The Chic Site for her Sparkling Peach Lemonade. Trust us, it’s really, really delicious.

Hands-on-LemonadeTasting-Lemonade

Deciding on the Menu:

If you look up what food to serve at a clambake, chances are there are going to be several different suggested menus, but a couple of things are for sure: lobster and clams. Some like to include potatoes, andouille sausage or chorizo, and corn-on-the-cob. If this is your first clambake, don’t focus on making it “perfect”. Your family and friends will be so grateful that you are feeding them such delicious food and spending time together it shouldn’t matter if everything is perfect. We did add in artichokes for color, texture and variety. We loosely followed this recipe from Ina Garten which is listed on The Food Network’s site here.

Food-Served
Utensils:

The best part of a clambake is that you mostly eat with your hands and it’s perfectly acceptable. This being said, make sure that you have the proper utensils to eat the lobster and clams. To make the lobster easy to enjoy, make sure to have lobster crackers available to get the lobster meat. However, make sure to set out forks in case you do serve sausage or potatoes so your guests can decide if they’d like to eat with their hands.

PlaceMat

Clean Up Fast:

A clambake has one of the best perks of summer entertaining—easy cleanup. Because you took the time in the beginning, you get to reap the rewards towards the end of the party. If using a disposable tablecloth, just pull each side towards the middle and remove everything that doesn’t go into the trash and then discard the rest. Easy peasy. Or in our case, we used newspaper as the table runner just for this purpose.

Have you joined us yet in making summer resolutions? Just use the hashtag #FiestaSummerResolutions to share what you’re doing to spend more time outside with family and friends on social media or share in the comments below. Happy summer!
